The present model, released in 1984, was the upper counterpart to the ZX Spectrum computer series by the same manufacturer, the Sinclair Research. Not aiming solely to common home users but professional institutions as well, it didn’t meet the commercial success in the intended market.
The company released the series in 1982 with the ZX Spectrum almost instantly becoming the best-selling microcomputer in the UK, thus launching the British information technology industry. The ZX series included the ZX81, predecessor of black and white display and eight different variants for the Spectrum. To note, there were also some clones entering the market, both official and unofficial. The complete family of computers sold very well, earning a well deserved place in the competitive intended market.
The biggest competitors were the Commodore 64, the Oric-1 and Oric Atmos, the BBC Micro and the Amstrad CPC computer line.
That was just a snapshot on the presentation of the techmuseum series. Indulge more into the history. Continue reading more about the present model, the Sinclair QL here.
