IBM manufactured and marketed the ThinkPad series from the beginning of ‘90s up until the acquisition of personal computer division shares from Lenovo, in 2005, that continued the production of the series. The ultraportable computers have a distinct black boxy appearance resembling the Japanese bento lunchboxes. The name derived from a leather notepad with the “Think” motto engraved.

Most of the models had a distinctive red trackpoint in the middle of the keyboard. The line became iconic due to the fashionable design. At that time, the main competitors were Toshiba and Compaq portable computers.

That was just a snapshot on the presentation of the techmuseum series. Indulge more into the history. Continue reading more about the present model, the IBM ThinkPad 1300 here.
