The Matra Hachette Alice has a Motorola 6803 processor at 0.89 MHz and memory of 4kB. It ran with the operating system of the Microsoft BASIC version.
Matra was a French industrial conglomerate, founded in 1945. The corporation was involved in various divisions including automobiles, aeronautics, even weaponry. Hachette is a famous French publishing company that collaborated with Matra for the production and marketing of the product lines. Matra entered into media activities after the acquisition of shares of Hachette, investing then in other industrial sectors after the buyout.
During the 1980s the two companies in a joint structure released a home computer series. They were clones of the famous TRS-80 MC-10, produced in collaboration with American Tandy Corporation as well. The Matra Alice series had distinctive bright red colour, hard casing, backward compatibility.
Unfortunately it never met commercial success, neither was deployed in schools. Matra failed entering the “ Information technology for everyone” program.
That was just a snapshot on the presentation of the techmuseum series. Indulge more into the history. Continue reading more about the present model, the Matra Hachette Alice here.
