The Canon AS 100 features an Intel 8088 processor at 4.7 MHz and memory of 128kB. Equipped with a floppy disk of 5.25” it ran with the operating system of the CP/M or HAI or MS DOS version, not IBM compatible.
Canon Inc. designed, produced and marketed the model during the 1980s. The 16-bit home computer weighted more than 30kg! The whole system consisted of the cubic monitor, the disks, the keyboard. One highlighted feature was the early colour inkjet included in this system, which was relatively quiet, but slow.
The company remained strong in the home computer division. A few years later, on 1987, released a powerful task-dedicated desktop computer unlike others from these decades. The originator was Apple Macintosh’s creator, Jef Raskin. After leaving the company he began designing the less expensive so called people’s computer. Was it an heir to the series or was it the real Macintosh? Even at that time, consumers and tech specialists alike wondered.
That was just a snapshot on the presentation of the techmuseum series. Indulge more into the history. Continue reading more about the present model, the Canon AS 100 here.
