TECHDAY 8 August The beginning of “PC”

On this TECHDAY in history, in 1980, as part of IBM’s Project Chess, in complete secrecy, twelve IBM engineers, led by Don Estridge, presented a prototype computer called “Acorn” to a company committee. The committee gave them a one year deadline to complete it, and release it on the market. The team succeeded in meeting the deadline on schedule and a year later, on August 12, 1981, the IBM-PC was introduced to the world.
