
On this TECHDAY in history, in 1994, Sun Microsystems Inc. formally announced its new programs, Java and HotJava at the SunWorld ’95 convention. Java, that was originally developed by James Gosling, was described as a programming language that, combined with the HotJava World Wide Web browser, would offer the best universal operating system to the online community. This concept was designed to create a programming language that could work on all types of platforms, eliminating the difficulties of translation between Macs, IBM PCs, and Unix machines.
