TECHDAY 21 September Galileo’s fall…

On this TECHDAY in history, in 2003, after having spent fourteen years in space, the unmanned NASA spaceprobe, named Galileo, was sent into the atmosphere of the giant planet Jupiter. It was the first man-made object to orbit the gassy giant (an orbit that lasted eight years). NASA decided to end the Galileo mission in this manner for a good reason. A potential collision with one of Jupiter’s satellites would have possibly brought bacteria from Earth and contaminated it.
