The world meets iPad | Techday, January 27th
On this TECHDAY in history, on January 27th 2010, Apple introduced the iPad, a revolutionary device that successfully balances browsing the web, reading email, and enjoying multimedia content. Steve Jobs himself in an Apple event presented the tablet computer that could also read ebooks and play games.
Shortly after release, the product met uprecedented commercial sucess. In less than two months, Apple sold 3 million units! The reviews were very positive, but critique focused on the lack of software compatibility, the general close nature of the operating system and the lack of support of Adobe Flash multimedia format. The iPad gradually signaled, although only a few years old, the end of the PC era and will go down in history as one of the more pivotal moments in computing.
Fun fact, back in 1983 co-founder Steve Jobs had made the following statement. Their aspiration for Apple was to fit a computer in a book so as to carry around wherever you’d want. It would also be so easy to use, that you would be able to learn it in just 20 minutes. Amazing!
