This TECHDAY, on May 14th 1984, marks the birthday of Mark Elliot Zuckerberg, an American media magnate, internet entrepreneur, and philanthropist. Mark Zuckerberg is known for co-founding the social media website Facebook and its parent company Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook, Inc), of which he is the CEO (chief executive officer), chairman, and major shareholder.

In 2004, Zuckerberg and a few of his friends launched a new website, called TheFacebook. The website was designed to be a more streamline version of the original site. The website quickly gained popularity, and within a few years it had millions of users. In 2006, Zuckerberg and his co-founders dropped out of college to focus on Facebook full-time, and the company rapidly grew into a massive social media platform with billions of users around the world.
