Happy birthday Facebook! | Techday, February 4th
The Facebook is a social network launched on this TECHDAY, on February 4th 2004, that has now changed the history of human communication. Facebook’s founder was Mark Zuckerberg. Though it started as a means for college students to connect, nowadays Facebook users are everywhere and are numbered by the billions!
The social media platform’s name derived from the face book directories given to American university students. Facebook members, initially, only limited to the Harvard students, as a mean to connect college students together.
Over the years, Facebook has evolved on the most visited website and preferred social media platform for the most recent years. Who would have thought that such an important social networking service would be, if you could believe it, founded by a bunch of Harvard roomates?
Fun fact, Zuckerberg first built a website called Facemash. On this comparable site, users would choose for the hottest person among the pictures presented. The Harvard administration has taken down the site, but charges on violating privacy has been dropped though. Peculiar!
